Voice over IP

In its simplest form VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is technology that allows calls to be made over a high speed internet connection. It works by converting voice calls into “packets” of digital information that are sent over the internet.

However, it is the range of options VoIP offers to users, rather than the underlying technology, that is changing the way we use the telephone.

Enhanced features

VoIP is not simply about cheaper call costs. VoIP opens up opportunities for connecting home workers and branch offices or retail locations back to HQ with free inter site calls, multi media video, voicemail and Instant Message Conferencing.

Cost control

Many people will be familiar with the cost savings associated with making calls over broadband. However, as well as the ability to make free calls between VoIP users, many services also offer a free additional line and savings over standard Fixed Line to local, national, international and mobile numbers. VoIP can also offer complete cost control on the amount you spend each month, with packages that give you unlimited calls to local and national numbers for a fixed monthly cost and capped rates to mobiles and international destinations.

Portability

VoIP calls are directed to a phone, not a location, so it's ideal if you travel or work from home regularly. Incoming phone calls are automatically routed to where you're connected to the internet, so you can make and receive calls using the same number wherever you are.

  • You don't have to be in front of a PC to make or receive a VoIP call.
  • No large upfront set up fee.
  • No maintenance contracts required.
  • Excellent quality, equal to a normal fixed line.
